Rycote Windjammer WJ 4

Rycote Windjammer WJ 4 | Help reduce wind noise in recordings

Rycote Windjammer WJ 4 is a windjammer microphone accessory for helping reduce wind noise in recordings. Its aimed at people recording speech or sound where moving air could interfere with the microphone, including videographers filming outside and audio users working on location. A windjammer is most useful when air movement is reaching the microphone and you want to keep the recorded sound clearer; its a practical addition to an audio setup rather than a microphone itself. For an outdoor interview, it can help tame the rumble caused by a breeze, while careful mic placement still matters. The WJ 4 name identifies this specific Rycote model, so use the full product name when matching it to the accessory you need. Wind protection has limits: in strong gusts, the recording position and shelter from the wind still make a difference.

Specialist Note

Videographers filming outdoor interviews are the people Id point toward the Rycote Windjammer WJ 4. A windjammer is intended to help with wind noise, so its worth considering when a light breeze is spoiling spoken audio; keep the microphone close to the speaker and use the WJ 4 as part of that setup. It can also make sense for location sound recordings when airflow is reaching the mic. Id still look for a sheltered position if the wind picks up: a windjammer isnt a promise of silent audio in strong gusts. The WJ 4 is the specific model name to use when identifying this accessory.
