Sony ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone Multi Shoe

Sony ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone Multi Shoe | Stereo sound for your video recordings

Without a separate microphone, your recording relies on whatever audio the cameras built-in microphones capture. The Sony ECM-XYST1M is a stereo microphone for people who want their videos sound recorded in stereo, rather than relying on the camera alone. That makes it worth considering for filmed conversations, events or scenes where you want the recording to retain a sense of space. Its Multi Shoe fitting gives the product a specific mounting format, so it suits a setup built around that connection. This is a focused accessory, not a fix for every audio problem: where you place the camera and the sounds around you still affect what ends up in the recording. If youre choosing a microphone to add stereo sound to a compatible setup, the ECM-XYST1M is a straightforward option to look at.

Specialist Note

Will the Sony ECM-XYST1M record stereo sound? Yesthats exactly what its name identifies it as. Stereo recording can give a conversation or a surrounding scene a sense of left-to-right space, which is useful when you want the sound to feel connected to the picture. The Multi Shoe fitting is the other detail to pay attention to: its the mounting format this microphone is made around, so your camera setup needs to use that connection. Id consider it for filming a seated conversation or capturing the feel of a busy room. For either, include the people or space you want heard in the cameras framing; the microphone wont remove distracting background noise for you.
